Mission

The Queer Graduate Student Association seeks to provide a supportive community for graduate students and post-doctoral researchers who identify as transgender, lesbian, bisexual, gay, pansexual, asexual, gender-nonconforming, gender variant, intersex, queer, questioning, allies, or as any other gender or sexual minority or variant (GSM).

We accomplish these goals by:

  1. Providing social activities to encourage and nurture a supportive GSM and ally graduate student/postdoc community
  2. Working with other GSM focused organizations on campus and within Houston to extend this sense of community beyond graduate school
  3. Collaborating with the Rice Wellness Center and Houston Montrose Center to provide Ally Training. Aimed at providing Rice students, faculty and staff with the knowledge and tools with which they can help maintain an open and accepting community on campus.
  4. Planning campus-wide events in which the Rice community is invited to learn about and celebrate its GSM diversity
